Ab-ı Hayat

Early form studies: I compared different plate and base proportions through small-scale models.
Before production, the forms were refined through CAD drawings and technical dimensions.
Jelutong wood blocks were prepared on the lathe to create the circular geometry of the bases.
Each base was shaped gradually on the lathe, with its proportions reconsidered throughout production.
Slots and channels were cut into the turned pieces to form their connections with the plates.
Days spent in the workshop, where testing, adjusting and repeating became integral to the project.
The base colours were explored through tones inspired by grapes, anise and olive oil from the Mediterranean table.
The plate models were 3D printed to test form and connection decisions at full scale.
The 3D-printed surfaces were hand-sanded and smoothed before the final finish.
Research, technical drawings and prototypes were reviewed together to communicate the design's development.
The plate prototypes were prepared for primer and paint layers to achieve an even surface.
The turned wooden bases were brought together to review their relationships of scale and height.
The prototypes were tested with users to observe patterns of sharing and serving gestures.
Bases at different heights established the collection's rhythm and each piece's role on the table.
Surface preparation and painting were completed under controlled workshop conditions for durability and colour consistency.
